ONCE UPON A TIME ... Chapter 3

On the last day of the visit, just as Big Sister
was finishing the last bit on the basket she
was making for Little Brother, Grand dad
arrived .

Sister was sooo very happy to see Grand dad.
He had driven his new blue pick-up truck and
Sister would get to sit in the middle between
Grannie and Grand dad...her very favorite
place to ride when she was traveling with
her grandparents.

Before they could leave,
everyone would eat the wonderful meal that
Great Aunt Mary and Grannie had cooked.
Fried chicken, corn-on-the-cobb, sliced tomatoes,
green peas, and lace corn bread...and homemade
peach icecream with pound cake . The food was
so good that everyone had to have seconds.

When everyone had eaten and helped Great Aunt
Mary wash and put up the dishes, it was time to go.
Of course, Big Sister was sitting in the middle between
Grand dad and Grannie. Grannie had made her a
little cushion just the right size for her to sit on and
see out the window. She was so happy to be going
home.

As they travel toward home, Sister looked and looked
to see things that would mean they were closer to home.
First she saw the traffic light at the big highway.
Next she saw the farm that had all the cows and pigs.
Shortly she saw the little brown house on the corner.
Sister knew the next house she saw would be the white
farm house where Grannie and Grand dad lived.
Sister was so excited that she could hardly sit still.
