Once upon a time....
a tiny baby was born on a cold January Sunday afternoon.
Time passed...
the baby grew and January came around twice more.
The baby had turned into a curly haired little girl...
...and eight days after she turned two years old ...
...she was blessed with a baby brother..
She was no longer the baby.
She was now a big sister.
Sister loved her baby brother with all her heart.
She liked to sing to him and make him smile.
As Little Brother learned to crawl and then walk,
he would follow Sister everywhere.
When Sister was four and Little Brother was two,
Sister went with Grannie to visit Great-Aunt Mary.
Little Brother was very sad . He looked for Sister everywhere.
When Sister was gettingh ready to go with Grannie, she had put
some clothes into her little travel bag that she always took when
she and Little Brother visited with Grannie. He remembered that
she always got clean socks for him to carried to Grannie's. He did not
remember what else she had packed for him, but that was o.k. because he
knew where his socks were kept. He got one sock, but then he remembered
that he always had to have two socks, one on each foot. So he got the other sock.
And now he was ready to go to Grannie's ,because he thought that was
where Sister was . He really wanted to find Sister. He missed her playing
with him and singing to him. Little Brother knew that if he went to the end
of the driveway and walked down the little country road that he would get to
Grannie's house. It was the very next house down the road. He knew that it
was white and had big trees and chickens in the yard and a big shaggy dog that
gave him big,wet ,sloppy doggie kisses when he was unhappy and cried.
Little Brother got to the end of the driveway and turned down the country road.
Now he was all alone. He could no longer hear the cows mooing to their calves,or the
hens clucking to the baby chicks. He could not hear Mama softly humming as she
worked in her flower garden or Daddy as he plowed the mule in the fields behind the
house. ....... (continued)
